Ann-Sofi Sidén at Bonniers Konsthall
Stockholm, Sweden / This fall, Bonniers Konsthall presents Ann-Sofi Sidén latest video, In Passing (2007). Bonniers Konsthall in the centre of Stockholm is one of the most recent venues for Swedish and international contemporary art in Stockholm. In Passing commences with a young woman who leaves her newborn infant at a “baby hatch” at a Berlin hospital. Through two monitors and four projections, the viewer follows corresponding stories featuring a mother and a child after their traumatic separation.
Sidén has been one of Sweden’s most prominent contemporary artists for over a decade. Sidén has had solo-exhibitions at the Hayward Gallery (London, United Kingdom), Moderna Museet (Stockholm, Sweden), Museé D’Art Modern (Paris, France), and Seccession (Vienna, Austria) and has been included in group-exhibitions such as Manifesta 2 (Luxembourg, LX) and Carnegie International (Pittsburgh, US) as well as the biennales in Berlin, Sao Paolo, and Venice. Through a suggestive mixture of journalism, scientific research, and feature film, Sidén’s sculptural installations and spatial videos examines issues of vulnerability, surveillance, and violence. Sidén’s works evoke feelings of being caught in a social, political or economical system, or immersed in between structures.
Ann-Sofi Sidén runs at Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm, Sweden, August 29 – October 12, 2008.
