Reading Group: Rebecca La Marre in Conversation with Tiziana La Melia
June 29th, 2019

RSVP here!

Join Fillip and artists Rebecca La Marre and Tiziana La Melia on Saturday, June 29, at 2pm at Hotam Press, Vancouver, for a performance and discussion on the slippages between language and bodies.

This event takes as its starting point the publication of “Love Is The Language That Sex Speaks,” a new artist’s book by La Marre released by Ma Bibliothèque. La Marre’s book is a collection of found texts of uncertain authorship, derived from overheard conversations and passages from books, articles, films, and images—all collected as if physical material.

For this event, La Marre will re-stage her 2015 performance at Matt’s Gallery, London, that led to the publication of “Love Is the Language that Sex Speaks” and La Melia will read from her recent publication “The Eyelash and the Monochrome and Other Poems” published by Talon Books. The readings will be followed by a discussion between the two authors.

Entrance to this event is free, but space is extremely limited and an RSVP is required.

Rebecca La Marre is a queer Canadian artist with a writing, research, and performance practice. Her work investigates how ritual, desire, and technology shape bodies, and what that contributes to an experience of being a person. Her work has been exhibited and published internationally include at the Serpentine Gallery, MOMA PS1, and the Darling Foundry. She is an emeritus commissioning editor for E.R.O.S. Journal and is currently Editor and Publications Coordinator at Remai Modern, Saskatoon.

Tiziana La Melia is a Vancouver based artist, writer, and filmmaker. Her work manifests long-term, collaborative investigations of desire, gender, architecture, the history of painting, ecology, place, and memory. She is the author of The Eyelash and the Monochrome (Talonbooks) and Oral Like Cloaks, Dialect (Blank Cheque Press). Her writing has been published extensively including by C Magazine and The Capilano Review, and recent exhibitions include those at Mercer Union (Toronto), the Vancouver Art Gallery, Oakville Galleries, Walter Phillips Gallery (Banff), and Damien and the Love Guru (Brussels).
